Following the mandate of the 1st Congress, the University of Dhaka and Bangla Academy, Dhaka, have come together to host the 2nd International Congress of Bengal Studies during 17th - 19th December, 2011. Prof. Anisuzzaman, Emeritus Professor, University of Dhaka, has been nominated as the President of the 2nd Congress
The main theme of the congress is 'Contemporary Bengal Studies covering different subject areas from Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Fine Arts. Special sessions will be held on Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Begum Rokeya. Distinguished scholars from different parts of the world are expected to attend the congress, and about 250 papers will be presented in the three-day long congress.
The chief patron of the congress honorable Prime Minister of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has given her kind consent to inaugurate the conference as the chief guest in Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building at 10a.m. on 18th December, 2011.
A strong organizing committee has been formed with the Vice-Chancellor Prof. A A M S Arefin Siddique as the President, Mr. Shamsuzzaman Khan as Vice-President and Dr. Rafique Ullah Khan as convener. Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman has been nominated as the academic president of the congress
